North American Same-Sex Partner Dance Association

Embracing and Welcoming ALL Dance Couples and Dancers

NASSPDA Ambassador Program

Ambassador Description

A person or couple who acts as a representative or promoter of NASSPDA.

In need of broader visibility, better promotion in the DanceSport world and advocating for same-sex competitive dancing, NASSPDA is looking to engage Ambassadors.

As many North American DanceSport organizations have changed their definition of a dance couple, we are witnessing interest and participation of newly formed same-sex, reverse role, and gender-neutral couples at their events. Many of those couples haven’t been introduced or exposed to NASSPDA as an organization; hence, they also do not know the benefits of being a member of NASSPDA.

NASSPDA’s Ambassador is an honorary title, given to a NASSPDA member* (a single person or dance couple) who has demonstrated interest in advocating, promoting and representing NASSPDA at sanctioned and NON-sanctioned events.

This title will be awarded for one calendar year with the honor of promoting NASSPDA. The recipient will be someone who has shown deep support for the same-sex (and gender-neutral) dance world by participating in, organizing, or volunteering at NASSPDA events. The Ambassador must have some basic understanding of NASSPDA as an organization to be able to advocate its beliefs, values and visions in social media and at other organizations’ gatherings, competitions, and meetings.

Ambassador Application

To start the process of selecting the Ambassador, interested individuals should complete the form link at the bottom of this page by October 31st each year is required. NASSPDA’s Board will select the Ambassador based on the candidate’s ability and capacity to support, participate, organize, and volunteer at NASSPDA events and advocating its
mission at events of other DanceSport organizations.  The Board will announce the Ambassador in January of the following year in the e-Newsletter, website and social media. The Term of serving is one calendar year, from January 1st until December 31st .

A formal announcement will be made at NASSPDA’s North American Championship or the first attended NASSPDA sanctioned event of the year (in a year where there is no North American Championship, then the announcement will be made at the USA Championship.) The title comes with the presentation of a certificate and an honorary stipend of $250 for the term served. For better exposure to the DanceSport world up to two Ambassadors may be awarded in the same year, preferably in different geographic areas so as to facilitate representation across North America, where each person will receive an honorary title and a stipend.

The Ambassador is required to network by participating (compete, officiate or be present) at non-NASSPDA events at least once a year or if that is for some reason not possible, by maintaining a good online and social media presence, in promoting and advocating for NASSPDA among the participating dancers, officials and guests. Banners and other promotional materials will be made available to support their presence at dance competitions and events. The Ambassador is advised to work closely with NASSPDA’s Promotion
Committee. The Ambassador will be invited to participate in the monthly conference calls of NASSPDA’s Board. When requested, the Ambassador will provide information and/or a written or oral report to NASSPDA’s Board on the conducted outreach.
-Current Board members can not apply to become Ambassadors.
-If a couple is approved to become Ambassador, they will receive only one stipend

*NASSPDA membership is required upon approval of the candidate.
